Captain Syrup is the pirate leader of the Black Sugar Gang, and Wario's treasure hunting rival. After Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 and Wario Land II, she was retired from the series until Wario Land: Shake It!

Personality[]

Captain Syrup has shown to be cruel and cunning to her enemies, specially Wario, her archenemy and rival. Aside from that, Captain Syrup is also greedy when it comes to treasure, priceless artifacts, and money in general given her role as a pirate. Syrup holds an intense grudge against Wario since the first time she was defeated by him and even has shown to dislike him. Despite this, there are times when Captain Syrup helped Wario fight a greater evil, such as the Shake King, although in this case she only teamed up with Wario to steal Wario's Bottomless Coin Stack after Wario had defeated the Shake King (possibly forever) and to have taken the Bottomless Coin Stack with him.

Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3[]

The Black Sugar Gang is said to have captured a gigantic statue of Princess Toadstool and taken it to their base of operations on Kitchen Island. Throughout the game, the forces of Captain Syrup defend the island from the lone intruder Wario. In the end, the captain is seen in the quarters at Syrup Castle, where she is revealed to be a woman. She gets up from bed and orders her genie to rise from the lamp and fight Wario. After the genie is neutralized, Syrup gets upset and hops away while chucking a bomb, blowing up the castle. The statue is then shown to be real, hidden inside the castle interior.

Wario Land II[]

In Wario Land II, three of her minions steal valuables from Wario's castle. After realizing this, Wario chases them while they attempt to throw him off their trail. The normal game has five endings, one of which ends the journey at the reconstructed Syrup Castle. After Wario collects new treasure, completes his treasure map and reclaims his own treasure five times, he proceeds to the truly final chapter of the game, which involves a hidden cave not far from Syrup Castle. This time, Wario steals "the Syrup's treasure", taking it from the giant spear man.

Wario Land: Shake It![]

Captain Syrup (AKA "Maple" in previews) returns after a decade-long hiatus. In this game, she serves as more of a rival than a straight villain. She also uses a new ship - the Sweet Stuff - rather than the SS Tea Cup. Also the rest of the Black Sugar Gang is not seen in this adventure.

Trivia[]

  • Captain Syrup is considered one of the great villains of the Wario series, the other being Rudy the Clown.
  • Captain Syrup is the most notable villain in the Wario series to ally with Wario in a single game. If Terrormisu is reckoned to have sided with Wario, it makes Captain Syrup become the second villain in the Wario series to ally with Wario.
  • Captain Syrup is the only villain in the Wario series to receive a redesign.
